การหกล้ม หมายถึง การที่ผู้สูงอายุหกล้มจากท่ายืนหรือการพลัดตกจากเตียง/เก้าอี้ หรือการตกจากที่สูงในระหว่าง 6 เดือนก่อนวันสัมภาษณ์ ทั้งนี้ไม่นับรวมถึงการหกล้มที่เกิดจากการถูกบุคคล สัตว์เลี้ยง หรือวัตถุสิ่งของมาชนหรือกระแทก
